Convert nmol/L to pmol/L (and back)
How to convert a value from your report into other units — with the formula and examples.
nmol/L=pmol/L
pmol/L = nmol/L × 1000; nmol/L = pmol/L ÷ 1000
How it works
The simplest conversion is a shift of three orders of magnitude. Nanomoles (10⁻⁹) and picomoles (10⁻¹²): a picomole is a thousand times smaller than a nanomole. Estradiol, for example, is converted this way: 0.10 nmol/L = 100 pmol/L.
Examples for common markers
| Marker | Molar mass / valence | Conversion example |
|---|---|---|
| Estradiol | — | 0.10 nmol/L = 100 pmol/L |
| Vitamin B12 | — | 200 pmol/L = 0.2 nmol/L |
A common mix-up: pg/mL to pmol/L is not a factor of a thousand but a conversion through the molar mass (see the neighbouring pages).
