Convert ng/mL to nmol/L (and back)
How to convert a value from your report into other units — with the formula and examples.
Formula: nmol/L = ng/mL × 1000 ÷ M; M is the molar mass, g/mol (1 ng/mL = 1 mcg/L).
How it works
Nanograms per milliliter are converted to nanomoles per liter through the substance's molar mass. The best-known example is vitamin D: 1 ng/mL = 2.5 nmol/L.
Examples for common markers
| Marker | Molar mass / valence | Conversion example |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin D (25-OH) | ≈400 | 40 ng/mL = 100 nmol/L |
| Testosterone | 288,4 | 288 ng/dL = 10 nmol/L |
Remember vitamin D: nmol/L = ng/mL × 2.5 — the most common conversion in lab tests.
